Minaya in the mirror

Two things defined my childhood. One is Michael Jackson and more specifically his album Thriller. The other is the entire roster of the 1986 Mets (including coaching staff) for what they did. So, with that in mind it is time for Omar Minaya to “make that change” by going out to pick up a bat for the current incarnation of the New York Mets better known as the Tidewater Tides. It is clear that nobody has any idea when Carlos Delgado or Jose Reyes really will be back in top form. What is clear is that Daniel Murphy is not ready for the big stage, especially at first base. What is also clear is that the best power hitters on this team are the guys playing catcher. Citi Field can’t get all of the blame for the lack of offense. David Wright may only have three home runs at home, but he has one on the road. Factor in that Wright is the only lock for an all-star spot on the Mets roster and you can see why Minaya needs to do something.
Garrett Atkins can be had and he could play first base or his ex-teammate Matt Holliday. Holliday could play either corner outfield spot, heck the Mets could even go out and get Aubrey Hough to play first base for them. The bottom line is they need something.
In a season where the Mets opened a new stadium and was picked by Sports Illustrated to win the whole watoosie, the Mets still have a chance to remain competitive, that chance is dwindling though. Florida looks good, Atlanta looks good, and my mother believes that the Brewers are going to beat out the Mets for the playoffs based on some weird Willie Randolph voodoo. Minaya needs to create some voodoo of his own and quick.
